Fabert was pulled from the water after crews responded to the reported drowning at Vernon's Pit around 1:20 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, Massachusetts State Police said.

Fabert apparently jumped off a high rock into the quarry and did not resurface while he was swimming with friends, police said. He was pulled from the water two hours later and pronounced dead at a local hospital, according to police.

Swimming is prohibited in Vernon's Pit, Nelson's Pit, and at the Klondike Reservoir, the Gloucester Times reports. The incident remains under investigation.
